Weld-on collar plate
The weld-on collar plate (Type 32 to EN 1092-1) – also known as a weld-on plate collar – is a separately manufactured weld-on fitting with a machined sealing face, permanently joined to the pipe by a butt weld. Unlike a weld-neck flange, the collar itself has no bolt holes: bolting is provided by a separate, freely rotating loose flange, which slides over the collar and bears against its back face when tightened. In this two-part collar-and-flange assembly, only the weld-on collar plate contacts the process medium; the loose flange ring remains outside the wetted area. The collar can therefore be made from a highly alloyed material such as stainless steel, while the flange ring can use more economical carbon steel. This material combination makes the Type 32 weld-on collar plate a cost-effective choice for piping and plants carrying corrosive media, for joints requiring frequent assembly and removal, and for piping systems where adjacent flange bolt patterns must be aligned precisely.
